'Umdatul Fiqh serves as a primer to the study of hanbali fiqh. The author of this text, Ibn Qudamah al Maqdisi is considered not just a master of hanbali fiqh, rather he is rightly considered a master of comparative fiqh as his magnum opus al Mughni clearly shows.
